LinC/Ecumenical

LinC stands for (Love in the name of Christ). Each Christian church in Eltham has a group of volunteers who, while representing their church, are willing to help those in need in the local community, and together all the volunteers are known as LinC. The type of help given is very much like that of our Caring Group, except it's offered to the wider community in Eltham, not just our Parish.

We do a lot of transport for medical appointments, shopping for the elderly or just visiting the lonely. Clerical assistance can also be given in our office. LinC provids a wonderful way of showing that we Christians do care about others in our community.

Our Lady's has been part of LinC Eltham since 1993 when it was first set up and since then other churches from Montmorency and Greensborough have joined. We work well with the local agencies in the Shire and they often refer people in need to us.

Each year we have a Training and Information morning and these are advertised in the bulletin.

St Kizito Parish - Malawi Support Group

The Group first formed late in 1996 following circulation of a request from the Cathedral for a Parish Group to provide support to a parish in Africa. The idea of formally providing material and spiritual support to a Sister Parish in a third world country was eagerly accepted by Our Lady’s parishioners in January 1997. We were finally linked with St Kizito’s Parish at Chigoneka, Lilongwe in May 1997.

Money raised from various functions is transferred into U.S. dollars and provides a huge bonus to the development of their facilities. These funds have enabled St Kizito’s Parish to renew two churches, build accommodation for AIDS orphans, classroom shelters and a compound wall to keep intruders out of the grounds. St Kizito’s Feast day (3rd June) is celebrated by Our Lady’s Parish on the nearest weekend.

Anyone wishing to attend a meeting or join the Support Group would be most welcome to come along at 8:00pm on the first Tuesday of the month to the Church Gathering Area. Any donations from within or outside the Parish would be gratefully received by the Secretary or through the Parish House.
